Professor S.C. Srivastava obtained his LL.D. (Doctor of Laws) from the Calcutta University and has a privilege of being the first LL.D. in Labour Law in India. Starting his career as Lecturer in Law School, Banaras Hindu University, he served Jammu University as Associate Professor (Reader) and Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, as Professor of Law, Chairman, Department of Law, and Dean, Faculty of Law. Earlier, during 1986-88, he served the University of Calabar (Nigeria) as Professor, Head of the Department of Public and
International Law and Dean, Faculty of Law. He also served the Law Commission of India during 1992-97, Research Professor, Indian Law Institute, New Delhi from 1999-2004 and Director, Institute of Industrial Relations and Personal Management, New Delhi from 2004-2008. Professor Srivastava was awarded a distinction of National Fellow from the University Grants Commission, New Delhi (India).
Prof Srivastava was the Member of the Sectoral Innovation Council appointed by the Prime Minister of India to review Labour Laws and Member, Task Force for recommending measures to eradicate child labour, particularly for the enforcement of the CLPR Act, 1986 and member National Child Labour Implementing Scheme of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India. He is a member Advisory Board on Child Labour, VV Giri National Labour Institute, NOIDA. Prof Srivastava was a Consultant of ILO on a project on Worst Form a Child Labour (ILO 182 Convention). He also acted as Resource person on developing skills of Conciliation officer and imparted training to Presiding officer of Labour Court/Tribunal in the Workshops organized by the ILO and the National Judicial Academy, Bhopal.
Professor Srivastava addressed World Intellectual Property organization (WIPO) in San Francisco. He was also invited by the Parliamentary Standing Committee to make presentation on Code on
occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Bill, 2019 in December, 2019.
He also served as a Visiting Professor XLRI, Jamshedpur, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, Indian Institute of Management, Rohtak and Guru Govind Singh Indraprastha University Delhi. He was also Legal Consultant to Petroleum & Natural Gas Regulatory Board, Government of India New Delhi and NEPZ, NOIDA(U.P.)
Prof. Srivastava is presently Honorary Professor, Maharashtra National Law University , Aurangabad, Expert Professor ,School of Law, ShardaN University, Greater NOIDA and President, National Labour Law Association, New Delhi and Advocate and Legal Consultant in New Delhi.
Prof. Srivastava has published of 46 books, including 20 solo-authored works and 26 co-authored books. His books on Industrial Relations and Labour Law, published by Vikas Publishing House, New Delhi is an authoritative text not only in India but also serves as a comparative reference in esteemed universities across Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Bangladesh and the Netherlands. He was the first author to publish a comprehensive book on Social Security & Labour Laws with Eastern Book Company in 1985, further solidifying his pioneering role in legal education. His three co-authored books have been published by the World Trade Organization (WTO) and Institute of Developing Economies (IDI-JETRO), Japan. Further his articles have been published Australia, Manila, Paris and Brussels. Professor Srivastava is contributing Labour Law since 1978 in Annual Survey of the Indian
Law Institute, New Delhi .
In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Professor Srivastava has received numerous accolades, including the title of Professor of Eminence by the Law Lexicon Foundation, the National Law Day Award-2023 by the International Commission of Jurists, and prestigious fellowships from the University Grants Commission.
