Dr. Ranjan Kumar is an Assistant Professor in Legal Theory at the National Law Institute University, Bhopal, where he has taught since June 2014. With a Ph.D. focusing on the relationship of Justice with Law in Supreme Court judgments, and an M.A. in Philosophy, he brings a nuanced perspective to his teaching, covering subjects like Jurisprudence, Public International Law, Conflict of Laws, and Code of Civil Procedure. His engaging pedagogy fosters critical thinking and practical legal skills among students.

As an active scholar, he has published extensively in reputed journals, including Journal of Comparative Constitutional Jurisprudence and Indian Law Review. His research papers, such as “Gender Bias in Execution of Death Penalty in Post-Independence India” and “Code on Wages, 2019: A Paradigm Shift in Enforcement of Wage Related Labour Laws,” have been cited internationally, reflecting his academic works’ broader impact.

His expertise extends to impactful research projects, including a Digital Legal Literacy initiative for the Department of Justice and a competition assessment for the Competition Commission of India. He successfully completed translation of voice of beneficiaries’ transcripts in many Indian vernacular for CSC e-Governance Services supporting access to legal resources.

As a coordinator, he has successfully organised programs, like National Conference on Constitutional Jurisprudence; academic consultation programme of National Commission for Women – Western Region Law Review Consultation on “Right of Muslim Women‑Reviewing Muslim Personal Law; and UGC – Master Trainers Training Programme for capacity building of faculty as Masters trainers for Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan 2.0. Dr. Ranjan’s litigation experience in civil, criminal, and corporate cases at the High Court and District Courts of Delhi enriches his academic and consultancy work. A sought-after speaker, he has delivered lectures for IAS probationers, and public prosecutors, and others, showcasing his versatility.
