Cares-Environmental Law Cell

The Cell for Awareness and Research in Environmental Law Studies (CARES) emerged as a beacon of environmental stewardship, finding its roots under the aegis of the Centre for Environment and Natural Resources Law at the National Law Institute University on December 10, 2007. Dedicated to instigating community engagement and scholarly pursuits in the realm of environmental law, CARES serves as a dynamic hub for enlightenment. With a mission to shed light on issues often overlooked by mainstream media, CARES endeavours to nurture a generation of environmentally conscious legal minds. Through flagship events like Bio sanctum, in collaboration with State Biodiversity Board and Pollution Control Board, and a myriad of impactful activities, CARES stands at the forefront of catalysing awareness, dialogue, and proactive initiatives in the ever-evolving field of environmental law.

In furtherance of the Cell’s aim towards building awareness for wildlife conservation, this year the Cell organized a Bird Watching Trip to Van Vihar for the student community on the occasion of World Migratory Birds Day. The Cell also successfully organised two Panel Discussions on Emerging Environmental Law Issues which saw participation of esteemed speakers from the field of environmental conservation and people working closely with the government on environment related policies. Further, the Cell also successfully released its first ever Annual Handbook on Environmental Laws. The handbook is a meticulous collection summarizing significant judgements, legislations, rules and notifications related to the environment.

Strengthening the Cell’s efforts towards promoting academic research and writing, the CARES Blog has seen an impressive run throughout the year, with quality submissions on varied issues emerging in the field of environmental law. Lastly, with an aim to promote environmental consciousness, the Cell continued organising Tree Plantation Drives in the university campus.
