The NLIU Law Review is the flagship journal of National Law Institute University, Bhopal, published bi-annually by the students of the University. It is a peer-reviewed academic law journal which aims to inculcate a culture of academic research and writing among students, and serve as an important forum for discourse on contemporary and pressing legal issues. As of 2024, the journal has proudly completed thirteen years, publishing thirteen volumes and twenty-three issues that contribute significantly to the scholarly literature in the domain of law.

Notable Accomplishments of the NLIU Law Review

  1. Publication Milestones: In June 2024, the NLIU Law Review released Volume XIII Issue II, marking the second issue published in the 2023-24 academic session. This issue featured eight manuscripts encompassing diverse areas of law, reflecting the journal’s inclusive approach to legal research and its commitment to promoting academic discourse on contemporary legal issues.
  2. The IDIA-NLIU Law Review Essay Writing Competition, 2023: In collaboration with the IDIA Madhya Pradesh Chapter and the S&R Associates, the NLIU Law Review organized an essay competition to promote diversity in legal thought. Winners received cash prizes and the opportunity to publish their work in Volume XIII, Issue II. The competition results were announced on 15th April 2024.
  3. NLIU Agreement Drafting and Presentation Competition, 2024: The first edition of the NLIU Agreement Drafting and Presentation Competition was held on 30th March 2024. This event aimed to enhance practical understanding of contract law and invited both undergraduate and postgraduate law students to showcase their skills. Out of 120 submissions, the top fifteen progressed to the final rounds, judged by esteemed legal professionals. The competition concluded with a successful valedictory ceremony and a social night, providing participants with valuable networking opportunities.
  4. Engagement with the Legal Fraternity: The NLIU Law Review received letters of appreciation from Hon’ble Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Hon’ble Justice Ujjal Bhuyan of the Supreme Court of India. Their commendations highlight the journal’s vital role in fostering academic discourse within the legal community. Additionally, previous issues of the NLIU Law Review were distributed to eminent members of the legal fraternity, including judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts, libraries, sister law universities, and other forums to increase the journal’s outreach.
  5. 1st NLIU Freshers’ Blog Writing and Presentation Competition, 2024: Launched in February 2024, this intra-university competition aimed to inculcate a spirit of academic research and writing among incoming B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and B.Sc. LL.B. (Hons.) students. Participants wrote short articles on contemporary legal issues, with the top three manuscripts published on the NLR Blog and accompanied by exciting awards and prizes.
  6. The NLR Blog: In February 2024, the NLIU Law Review launched the NLR Blog, a platform for discourse on contemporary legal and policy issues. The blog accepts submissions on a rolling basis, adhering to submission guidelines, and serves as an extension of the NLIU Law Review’s commitment to fostering legal scholarship.

Session on the ‘Nuanced Approaches to Legal Research’: The NLIU Law Review in collaboration with the NLIU Alumni Affairs Cell organised a session on ‘Nuanced Approached to Legal Research’ on 7th October 2023. The session was conducted by Mr. Tejas Hinder (Batch of 2023). Over the course of the session, he emphasized on the difference in attitudes with regards to different activities that require research be it academic relating to research papers, articles and blogs, professional relating to legal advisory, due diligence, and co-curricular relating to moots, debates and policy research competitions.

Through these initiatives and accomplishments, the NLIU Law Review continues to uphold its mission of promoting academic excellence and contributing to the broader legal community.
